What is a Doula?

A Doula is a professional trained in childbirth, who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a birth parent who is expecting, experiencing labor, and/or has recently given birth. The Doula’s purpose is to help the birth giver have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience. To read evidence-based information on Doula support, click here. (This will direct you to Evidence Based Birth's website.)

A doula...

  • Recognizes birth as a key life experience the birth parent will remember all their life.

  • Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a person in labor.

  • Assists the birth parent and their partner in preparing for and carrying out their preferences for their birth journey.

  • Stays by the side of the birthing person throughout the entire birthing time.

  • Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures, an objective view, and assistance to the birth parent in getting the information they need to make confident decisions.

  • Facilitates communication between the birthing person, their partner and clinical care providers.

  • Allows the birth parent’s partner to participate at their comfort level.

  • Perceives the role as one who nurtures and protects the birth parent’s memory of their birth experience.

My Story

Stephanie Jameson, CD(DTI), HCHD
Pregnancy, Birth & Postpartum Hypno-Doula

I was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In 2002 our family relocated to Florida, where I met my significant other, Joshua. Three days after our wedding, we moved ourselves to Georgia with our 4 dogs... Yep, FOUR fur babies! (We have also recently adopted some chickens too!)

Regardless of where in the world I have ended up living, I have continued to be a caregiver for nearly 20 years. Over the last few recent years, I really became inspired to direct my path more towards birth and postpartum support.

As a Doula, I am privileged to help birth parents and their partners make these experiences as positive and healthy as possible. I am proud to offer care to birthing persons and adopting families across the Acworth and surrounding areas.

Birth stories & words of love from my birth and postpartum clients!

"Wow. I'm not even sure where to start. I was able to achieve my very first vaginal birth after having TWO c-sections. I couldn't have done it without Stephanie. From the beginning I instantly felt a connection with her and I told her I don't need to meet with any more doulas, I'm going with you! I wouldn't have done it without her. I'm so ready for the next pregnancy just so I can be with her. Choose her. You will NOT regret it." - Marcia C.

"During my pregnancy I knew I wanted a Doula, however had no connection to a doula or referral from anyone I trusted. At 34 weeks we started taking a Hypnobirthing class that was a 5 week session. It was there that we got to know the instructor well and really connected with her. Stephanie came highly recommended and well trusted by our instructor, also had taken the same Hypnobirthing classes we had!

It was easy to connect with Stephanie and arrange time to discuss my birth plan and goals. Stephanie was amazingly flexible considering we connected at the end of my third trimester days before my due date. Stephanie took time and was very detailed reviewing my birth plan and making sure she understood our desires. The morning I went into labor Stephanie was easy to get in touch with and so calm. Not having a lot of time to get to know each other there was a lot of trust that we both gave each other right off the bat. Stephanie was such a strong support for me, as a first time mom and my husband during labor, delivery and recovery. I honestly do not know how we would of navigated my goal to labor at home and have a successful water birth without her.

Stephanie is very knowledgeable and experienced, she was amazingly proactive with everything from making sure I had water to learning what helped my most through contractions. She helped coach my husband on what to do real time and really was actively involved the entire time.

Evie Rose came quietly and fairly fast on July 22nd after only 10 hrs of labor. Stephanie never leaving my side, was able to deliver her out of the water, when the nurse and team had briefly stepped out of the room.

From a nurse, first time mom, supporter of natural birth and water birth, I would without a doubt recommend Stephanie’s Doula support." - Nichole J.

“Stephanie helped us welcome our daughter in Jan 2020. I knew she was the perfect match upon our first phone conversation.  Stephanie has great energy and is an experienced doula. She actively listened to our concerns and goals then supplied us with tools and information to prepare. My partner was initially anxious to be a part of the birth, but with her support he was confidently able to participate for the duration and even cut the cord!

Also, with Stephanie’s training in Hypnobabies, I was able to have the unmedicated birth I desired. She used Hypnobabies language and helped me stay focused on my tracks. Most importantly, she helped me feel safe, strong and confident. She was also a great asset postpartum, which allowed me to have alone time and perform self care. Stephanie was an integral partner on our birth team. We highly recommend Stephanie and her services to anyone expecting!" - Marie S.

"If you, your partner, or someone you care about is having a baby in Metro Atlanta any time in the future, YOU NEED THIS WOMAN! I knew we would love her from the first time we spoke on the phone and then our first face to face meeting lasted longer than intended as she got to know it's beyond just our birth preferences. She was supposed to be our doula. But I believe she was more to us than any regular doula. It would be an understatement to say she is passionate about helping people achieve a beautiful childbirth. It is her calling and she is a goddess!!

The labor was 45 hours. Yes, that is correct. Labor. Was. 45. Hours. For real.
Stephanie kept my husband and I sane, happy, focused, and relaxed. She was a great coach through the tough moments. She took care of me so my husband could just get a break for five minutes. She sang with us in the easier hours. She took pictures of really special moments. She helped us make decisions and remembered our preferences. She kept us both as comfortable as possible. She made sure we ate and drank and even slept.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Stephanie and what she was for us. And she shared in the most amazing moment of our lives. She got to meet our daughter on her birth day and I'm sure that's why she does it.

Even our postpartum visit was more than expected. She brought me tea, helped with nursing positions, told me about ways to get my strength and energy back, and left us with a sense that we were amazing new parents. That positivity goes a long way. We can't recommend her enough!!" - Barbara U.

"I contacted Stephanie when I was 36 weeks pregnant and looking for a Doula to provide support for myself and my husband during the upcoming birth of our second child and my desire to have a VBAC.  Stephanie quickly got in touch with me for an introductory phone call and combined our prenatal appointments into one visit during my 38th week.  She took detailed notes about what I wanted in my birth plan and put my desires down in writing in a way that I had not been able to for myself which was much appreciated, especially at the hospital with my providers (she provided all the information to them while I was in the midst of transitioning in labor when we arrived at the hospital!).

Stephanie is confident in the support she provides to mothers and birth partners and empowered me to make and vocalize my choices during the delivery process with my providers and provided support to my husband as well.  On the day that I went into labor, she was available and in communication consistently.  She labored with us at the house for a few hours and then went with us to the hospital - without her support in the L&D process I would not have had as clear of an understanding of what actions were being taken or what my options were.  At 3:28am on 1/22 I successfully delivered, via VBAC, a beautiful little girl with a full head of hair and I absolutely was astounded that she arrived without surgery given that many elements of my delivery were similar to my first up until the very end.

Stephanie was an incredible asset in my birth process and I am thankful for her support, advocacy and overall care for my birth journey.  I highly recommend her and am very thankful that she was a part of my birth team!!!" - Susan T.
